Missoula Food Bank & Community Center Undergoes an Equity Audit

MISSOULA, MT - At MFB&CC, we recognize that hunger is not just about food—it’s deeply connected to systemic inequities that disproportionately impact marginalized communities. In 2024, with the support of a generous donor, we conducted an Equity Audit with Widerstand Consulting, a female and Black-led firm, to evaluate our progress and uncover areas where we can grow in addressing these root causes.

The audit evaluated the following areas within our organization: Identity & Mission, Organizational Culture, Program Initiatives, Staffing Patterns, Accountability, and Structure & Consistency. The audit highlighted both successes and opportunities to deepen our impact, reinforcing that true equity work means addressing barriers like racism, economic inequality, and access to resources that contribute to hunger. We are already making strides by implementing the audit’s recommendations, and we are thrilled to announce that we will hire a Director of Equity this spring. This role will help us align our efforts with our values of dignity, empathy, and equity, ensuring that our programs not only meet immediate needs but also contribute to a future where all neighbors can thrive.

We remain committed to ending food insecurity by fostering an inclusive community where everyone has the opportunity to succeed. Together, we can build a foundation for lasting change.
