Feeding Missoula - Global Leadership Initiative Capstone

Feeding Missoula is a capstone project in partnership with the University of Montana Franke Global Leadership Initiative and Missoula Food Bank & Community Center. Our project aims to address food insecurity experienced by youth in and around the Missoula Community. Through a variety of collaborative, community‑driven strategies, we have worked to promote food security in our community and empower Missoula's youngest neighbors.

Over the course of a year, we have designed interactive pamphlets with food-themed activities and “easy-peasy” recipes to promote food literacy and invite children to take an active role in their nutrition. Additionally, each pamphlet has a helpful resources page with QR codes leading to SNAP, school lunch, and WIC application assistance, as well as our food resources map and project Instagram page. So far, we have distributed 4,800 pamphlets in three months through the EmPower Pack program!

We also have created an interactive food resource map, marking locations of different pantries, community fridges, and hot meal programs! This map is designed to be as accessible as possible, allowing users to see location hours, eligibility, and any additional details before they visit. It also gives users directions to each location by car, walk, bike, or Missoula’s free bus routes, to address transportation barriers.
