Medicaid & SNAP Service Requirements
Keep Your SNAP & Medicaid Benefits Working For You
Starting on July 1, 2026, under the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” Montana will introduce community engagement requirements for certain Montana Medicaid members. You may need to take action to keep your benefits.
Are You Affected?
You will be required to document 20 hours per week (80 hours per month) of work, training, or volunteering to maintain benefits if you:
- Are an adult between the ages of 19-64.
- Are covered under the Medicaid Expansion.
- Do not have an exclusion* (see exclusions below).
Your 3 Step Plan for Success
Step 1: Update Your Address: missing mail is the #1 reason people lose benefits. Make sure your mailing address is current by clicking this link or calling 1-888-706-1535.

Step 2: Find Your Notification Letter: Check your mail to find the most up-to-date alert from Montana's Health & Human Services. When you receive your recertification packet, submit your renewal packet immediately.
Step 3: Use the Volunteer Option to Meet Your Requirement: Need to meet the 20-hour service requirement? Missoula Food Bank & Community Center is building a network of volunteer sites that can provide the daily logs and verification letters you’ll need. While the state finalizes details, we’re here to help. Fill out the short form below if you’d like updates on where you can complete your hours.
